The real Deal
"Disney On Ice is the real deal in the "rock world". I was admittedly hesitant on going to this show, for fear it may not rock as hard as it did. The openers of "Buckcherry" & "Three Days Grace" were ok. Three Days Grace was a little angry & depressing for my taste. But they have a lot of Radio Hits--a little light for my taste-- , and i love their heavier stuff & they played it all. Buckcherry suffered from being the very first band on--poor sound, semi empty arena. But they played great, lots of movement , but poor song selection. I like my Rock loose , fun & a little filthy. Otherwise--Good show!!!!"
Not the best
The event was marred by exorbitant prices at the venue. Many attendees around us were griping about the steep costs of items like $6 water bottles and highly priced beer. A woman even spent $30 or $36 on flavored ice and cotton candy. My husband witnessed people spending over $100 at a merchandise stand while he accompanied the kids to the restroom.
During the show, classic characters like Goofy, Minnie, and Mickey made appearances, but their roles were minimal. The two hosts, a girl and a boy, helped maintain the flow of the show, but their exaggerated cluelessness and poor wardrobe choices were somewhat irritating.
There were six "scenes" featured in the show: Moana, Coco, Beauty & The Beast, Cinderella, Frozen, and another one that escapes my memory presently. The performance was decent, but there was potential for it to be improved, particularly by addressing the high prices at the concession and merchandise stands.
pleasantly surprised
Having never heard of any of the acts or songs outside of the Disney channel, I didn't much care for the show to start with. Once there, the merch table emptied my wallet with 1 shirt ($35) and 2 CDs ($15 a piece), which I found to be horribly overpriced. But my sister wanted to go, so I gave her the full 5-star treatment - got her the VIP meet and greet pass and floor seats. I didn't much care for the first act; it was just 15 minutes long, which isn't long enough to judge. I was surprised to see a Disney kid singing and playing piano one song, then guitar and rocking out hard on the next. Took my kid sister to the show not expecting much from a 'Disney show'. But as the nice guy I am, I got it and it made my sister happy. Up next was the Archuleta kid, and his set was a full hour - it kept me interested and my sis on her feet. Once Disney On Ice came out, the show really started, and it got me bobbing my head.
SoFI Stadium - Not the Best Concert Experience
Disney Sir On Ice did a great job, we think. Our concert experience was absolutely horrible. We could not make out anything that Disney On Ice was saying when he shared stories. Even worse, our seats turned out to be seats with a partially obstructed view, and were not advertised as such. The sound system was very disappointing. Unfortunately, this should have been one of the best concerts we attended in our lives - however, it ranks as one of the worst we've experienced. The only way we knew what songs he was playing was when the crowd started to sing along.
Needs more volume
Disney On Ice was a blast to watch and they clearly had fun on stage every moment. The luxury box staff kindly allowed my wife, who had knee surgery a month ago, to use the elevator to reach the 3rd floor without walking up the steps. It was a windy night, and our seats were in the corner, the farthest from the stage. The parking lot before the concert was the highlight, with everyone relaxing and enjoying themselves. There were plenty of staff available to promptly assist anyone in need. Leaving the facility was painless except for the Bridgeview cops who, in a moronic move, had to argue with a cabbie and hold up 20 cars while proving their manhood. We met a nice couple from Glen Ellyn who generously shared whatever they had with us. Ok - so no one attends a Buffet show solely for the music. This was our first visit to Toyota Park, and I was impressed with the event staff from the moment we arrived. The sound crew worked tirelessly all night, finally allowing us to hear the bass by the third song. However, during the performance, we could only decipher 2-3 words out of every 10 he said between songs, and the volume was lower than what the Naperville final fling typically provides. Funny moments arose when the teeny-boppers seemed clueless during Rocky Raccoon. Perhaps next time I just need to drink more :)
